Description
I’ve always been fascinated by everyday objects that arae very representational of a culture, without being a nation treasure or a something outstandingly special. But everyday objects, that you wouldn’t even consider being out of the ordinary.
As a German, I was very fascinated by their vending machines, it didn’t matter if you were in the heart of Tokyo or in a mountain area on your way to a shrine, you could always count on a vending machine.
Not even the prices changes, from the countryside to international airports, they are everywhere, well stocked and always affordable. So after 2019 and visiting Japan, I’ve always wanted to make a little series out of those and this year, during traveling the southern, tropical island of Okinawa, I decided to finally get going with it.
This vending machine was right next to the harbor area and close to a lot of fishing boats. I choose this particular one since I appreciate the fusion between nature, plants and metal and at the same time the whole composition telling a lot about the people, who are mostly using this particular machine.
Shot digitally but a vintage tilt shift lens from the 60ties and stitched together from three different images, placed next to each other, to create a medium format quality and optic.
